UConn To Host UMass In NCAA Field Hockey Championship First Round

NEW YORK – The No. 3 seed UConn Huskies (17-3, 6-1) will host Massachusetts (15-5, 7-0) on Friday in the first round of the NCAA Field Hockey Championship. The game will be at noon in Storrs and available to stream on ESPN+.

Also competing in Storrs are Harvard (15-3, 6-1) and Syracuse (13-6, 4-4). The Crimson and Orange play Friday at 2:30 p.m. ET. The winning teams advance to the NCAA quarterfinals on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.

The Huskies earned both the BIG EAST regular season and championship titles after going 6-1 in conference play and beating both Liberty and Temple in the tournament. They earned the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.

The Minutewomen, who went undefeated in conference play, dropped a one-goal match to St. Joseph’s, 2-1, in the A-10 Championship final. They received an at-large bid from the NCAA committee.

UConn and Massachusetts already faced off once this year. The Huskies came away with the 1-0 victory on Oct. 20. The lone goal of the game was from Julia Bressler on a penalty stroke with 52 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
