Three Schools Receive Latest BIG EAST Track & Field Weekly Honors

BIG EAST Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Darius Brown, DePaul, Jr., Hurdles
Brown earns his second weekly honors of the season after a dominant showing at the Meyo Invitational. The junior broke two school records, earning the gold in both the 60-meter hurdles and the 4x400-meter relay alongside his teammates. He surpassed his own school record in the 60m hurdles, with a 7.70 second finishing time, tied for ninth-fastest in the nation. As a part of the 4x400 relay, Brown helped put together a 3:09.48 finish to win the event, the 44th-best mark in the nation so far this season.

BIG EAST Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Marc Morrison, UConn, Jr., Jumps
Morrison brought home a first-place finish at the Crimson Elite, posting a mark of 7.59 meters in the long jump. The junior’s performance was good for the third-farthest in school history. His distance stands as the best in the BIG EAST and is tied for 36th in the nation.

BIG EAST Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Chinenye Onuorah, St. John’s, Jr., Sprints
Onuorah picked up two wins at the Metropolitan Indoor Championships, taking the gold in the 400-meter dash and the 4x200-meter relay. The Junior recorded a time of 55.32 seconds in the 400m dash, nabbing her first individual win of the season. She also helped lead the 4x200-meter relay squad which produced a 1:40.13 mark to claim victory.

BIG EAST Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Natalia Surdej, UConn, Jr., Throws
At the Crimson Elite Surdeh earned a victory in the weight throw, finishing at 19.25 meters. The junior’s performance was the fourth-farthest in school history and currently slots at second in the conference.

Notable Performances
  • UConn’s Terrel Williams set a new program record and finished first in the men’s 60-meter hurdles at the Crimson Elite, running a time of 7.70 seconds; his mark is tied for ninth-best in the nation
  • DePaul’s Alex Bernstein set a new personal best of 20.83 meters in the men's weight throw at the Meyo Invitational, earning second place; he holds the best mark in the conference and the 39th-best in the nation
  • Georgetown’s Tim McInerney took the men’s 800-meters at the Scarlet and White Invitational with a new personal best 1:47.56 finish; his mark is third in the BIG EAST and is tied for 13th in the nation
  • St John’s Jamora Alves took home a win in the women's shot put at the Metropolitan Indoor Championships, posting a mark of 13.68 meters; her distance is second in the conference and helped the Johnnies claim the Metropolitan Championship Title
