BIG EAST Teams Begin League of Legends™ Play Tuesday

NEW YORK – BIG EAST Esports teams will begin play on Tuesday in the College League of Legends™ Fall Invitational, which will run from late September through mid-November.

Eight of the BIG EAST Conference’s 11 schools will be competing with St. John’s receiving the No. 1 seed in the BIG EAST Qualifying Tournament, a double-elimination bracket,  which starts Tuesday and runs through Tuesday, Oct. 20.  All matches are best of three in the game title, League of Legends, developed by Riot Games.

The first set of matches will start at 7 p.m. ET. Top seed St. John’s will play No. 8 seed Villanova, No. 2 DePaul will play No. 7 Georgetown, No. 3 Seton Hall will play No. 6 Connecticut and No. 4 Marquette will play No. 5 Butler.

The tournament will culminate in a nationwide 32-school, single elimination bracket. Schools will earn spots in the Invitational through qualifying tournaments, one for each College League of Legends regional conference and participating partner conference. The winner of the BIG EAST League of Legends tournament will automatically qualify for the regional rounds. A runner-up may be chosen to compete based on seeding comparison against other conference competitions.

Teams were seeded by the solo queue division of their top 5 players. In the event of a tie, the tie was broken by ranking the division and LP of the top player on each team

The competition is operated by PlayVS. Results will not impact team or conference standing in the 2021 Season in any way and no prizes will be awarded and is free for all participants.

The BIG EAST is one of five athletic conferences participating in the fall League of Legends tournament. The Conference joins the ECAC, ECC, Landmark Conference and Mountain West Conference. Additionally, there are two esports specific conferences: Esports Collegiate Conference and Midwest Esports Conference.
