INDIANAPOLIS – The 2024 Rocket League™ BIG EAST Tournament concluded on Friday, with top-seeded Seton Hall defeating second-seeded Butler, 4-2, to claim the BIG EAST Title.
Entering the tournament with a 4-1 conference record, the Pirates rebounded from an upper-final defeat against Butler, with a Grand Final victory and secure the third-straight title for Seton Hall.
For the second straight year the BIG EAST Esports championship was held in-person at the Esports Park on the campus of Butler University.
In the opening game of the tournament, Seton Hall swept No. 4 seed DePaul, outscoring the Blue Demons 11-5 in the three games. On the other end of the bracket Butler swept No. 3 seed St. John’s with a 17-3 goal scoring advantage in the trio of games.
In the first elimination game, DePaul swept St. John’s in three closely contested games, winning 3-2, 4-1 and 2-1, and advanced to the Lower Final.
In the upper final, Butler bested Seton Hall, 3-1. The Bulldogs captured the first two games, before The Hall secured the third, 2-1. In the fourth game, Butler edged Seton Hall, 4-3, to advance to the Grand Final.
In the Lower Final, Seton Hall won all three games against DePaul, 4-1, to secure the series 3-0 and advance to the Grand Finale for a rematch with Butler.
In a Best-of-7 Grand Final, Seton Hall jumped out the gates with three straight wins, 2-0, 4-1 and 3-2. Not backing down, the Bulldogs pulled back within one game in the series, winning game four, 3-1 and game five, 2-0.
However, it was all Seton Hall in the sixth and final game, with the Pirates earning a 7-0 win to claim the crown.
