NEW YORK – The BIG EAST Conference, in partnership with Playfly Sports, wrapped up the 2025 Esports season on Friday with Villanova and DePaul each capturing two of the four championship titles. The Wildcats earned the crown in both Rocket League and League of Legends, while the Blue Demons ran the table in both Overwatch 2 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
DePaul solidified a perfect season in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate with a pair of best-of-three series sweeps to lock up the championship. After going 5-0 in the regular season, the top-seeded Blue Demons out dueled No. 4 seed Seton Hall in the semifinal, 2-0, before topping No. 2 seed St. John’s, 2-0, in the title match.
In Rocket League, Villanova earned a best-of-seven series sweep in the semifinal over Creighton, while No. 2 seed DePaul topped No. 3 seed St. John’s 4-2. In the championship series, Villanova dropped game two before running the table against DePaul to secure the title, 4-1.
In Overwatch 2, No. 2 seed DePaul upset top-seeded St. John’s in the title match with a best-of-five series sweep. The Blue Demons advanced out of the semifinals with a 3-1 series win over No. 3 seed Seton Hall.
After a 5-0 regular season, Villanova advanced to the title match of League of Legends after a 2-0 series win over No. 4 seed Seton Hall. The Wildcats faced No. 2 seed DePaul, after the Blue Demons bested No. 3 seed Butler, 2-0. In the title game, Villanova took game one, before DePaul fought back to force game three. In the winner-take-all finale, the Wildcats were victorious.
