NEW YORK – Xavier’s Kara Carter has been named BIG EAST Female Golfer of the Week and Villanova’s Peter Weaver has been selected BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week. Carter was the top Musketeer performer at the Georgia State Invitational and Weaver took medalist honors at the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate.
BIG EAST Female Golfer of the Week
Kara Carter, Xavier, Fr. – Carter led Xavier to the team title at the Georgia State Invitational with an eighth-place individual finish. The freshman paced the Musketeers with an 8-over 224 (73-75-76). It was her fifth top-10 finish of the season. Xavier’s team score of 909 (+45) was one stroke ahead of runner-up Eastern Kentucky.
BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week
Peter Weaver, Villanova, So. – Weaver notched his second collegiate title, taking medalist honors at the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, Va. The sophomore shot a 54-hole total of a 1-over 214. He was even par going into the final round. Weaver had the second highest total of pars (36) and birdies (9) in the tournament. The Wildcats took fifth place in the team standings at 905 (+53).
Women’s Notes –
Seton Hall competed with Xavier in the Georgia State Invitational. The best Pirate finisher was sophomore Ginerva Zavagli, who tied for ninth at 9-over 225 (73-77-75) and registered her third straight top-10 finish. Georgetown tied for fifth place in the Babs Steffens Invitational with a team score of 915 (+51). Senior Kaitlyn Lees finished 16
th individually with a 227 (80-77-70).
Men’s Notes – Seton Hall won The Big Texas in Kerrville, Texas. The Pirates took home the title by four strokes over runner-up New Orleans. The Hall fired a 12-over 876 (290-287-299). Freshman Angus O’Brien tied for second place among 65 golfers with a 2-under 214 (70-70-74), just two strokes behind the individual champion.
