NEW YORK – Xavier’s Emma McMyler has been named BIG EAST Female Golfer of the Week and Marquette’s Nicolas Evangelio has earned BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week honors. McMyler posted her second victory of the season and enjoyed a strong finish at the Loyola Intercollegiate. Evangelio placed fifth at the Loyola Intercollegiate.
BIG EAST Female Golfer of the Week
Emma McMyler, Xavier, Sr. – McMyler won her second straight tournament in helping the Musketeers take the team title at the Rio Verde Invitational. McMyler took medalist honors, posting a one-over 217 and won a two-hole playoff to break the first-place tie. She has 14 career top-10 finishes with five medalist performances. Xavier finished 17 strokes ahead of runner-up Kennesaw State with a score of 875 (+11).
BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week
Nicolas Evangelio, Marquette, Sr. – Evangelio shot an 8-under 208 at the Loyola Intercollegiate, which placed him in fifth place. He shot a 1-under 71 and a 2-under 70 in the first two rounds. Evangelio turned in a season-low 5-under 67 in the final round to match his 54-hole career low. The Golden Eagles finished second in the team standings at 844 (-20).
Women’s Notes –
Butler also competed at the Rio Grande Invitational. Freshman Kelli Scheck tied for 23
rd with an 11-over 227. She opened with a 73 and followed 77 in both the second and third rounds. The Bulldogs posted a team score of 308 (+20) in the final round…
Georgetown’s Gabriella Gilrowski continued her strong play after carding a 4-under 209 (70-68-71) at the Atlantic Invitational. The Hoya team shot a program-best 284 in the first round and set a 54-hole record with a 17-over 869 (293-292-284) in the final round. Georgetown finished eighth in the 12-team field...
Seton Hall tied for 10
th place with a 33-over 897 (304-294-299) at the Ricer Towne Invitational in Mount Pleasant, S.C. Sarah Fouratt led the Pirates with a 6-over 222 (72-76-74). She used 16 pars toward a 2-over 74 in the final round. Fouratt tied for 26
th in a 103-player field…
Creighton sophomore Katherine Lemke placed third in a field of 80 at the Islander Classic in Corpus Christi, Texas. She opened with rounds of 73 and 77 before a final-round 80 and a 231. …The Bluejays took third place in a 15-team field.
Men’s Notes – St. John’s and
Seton Hall also competed in the Loyola Intercollegiate with Marquette. The Hall’s George Fricker shot a 2-over 218 to help the Pirates finish 16
th. St. John’s finished 17
th at 15-over. Peichen Chen and Tyler Gerbavsits tied for 36
th at 1-over 217.
Creighton freshman Grant Feldman helped the Bluejays finish 21
st at The Prestige in La Quinta, Calif. He tied for 64
th with rounds of 75, 73 and 78 for a 226. It is the first time he has led the Bluejays for an entire tournament…
Xavier tied for 14
th at the Wexford Intercollegiate. The two-day event was held at Hilton Head, S.C. Carson Bellish tied for 32
nd with a 227 (+11).
