Butler Sweeps BIG EAST Weekly Golf Awards

NEW YORK – Butler senior Leo Zurovac was named BIG EAST Men’s Golfer of the Week after he finished 4-under-par as he tied for sixth place in the Babygrande Donald Ross Collegiate Tournament. Butler sophomore Treva Dodd earned BIG EAST Women’s Golfer of the Week after placing third at the Low Country Intercollegiate Tournament.

Zurovac turned in scorecards in red numbers in each round of the Surf Club Invitational, finishing with an 8-under 205 - good for ninth place individually. Zurovac opened the event with a four-under 67 and concluded it with a third-round 68 (-3), carding a one-under 70 in between. Zurovac led the Bulldogs to a sixth-place team finish, finishing the 54-hole event with a combined score of 842 (-10).

Dodd led the Bulldogs at the Low Country Intercollegiate this past weekend to a fifth-place finish. The sophomore finished third individually with a three-round total of 223 (+7), including a final-round three-over 75. She also led Butler in birdies with eight, as the Bulldogs totaled the second-most birdies in the tournament (24).

Men’s Notes: Georgetown finished in a tie for ninth at the Babygrande Donald Ross Collegiate hosted by George Mason, March 9-11 in Southern Pines, N.C....the Hoyas were led by Barnes Blake, who finished in a three-way tie for sixth as the top BIG EAST finisher...St. John’s joined Georgetown at the Babygrande Donald Ross Collegiate … The Red Storm took eighth (+11), one spot ahead of Georgetown (+15) … Matthew DiFiore was the top Johnny finisher in 15th at 1-under … Matthew Costello led UConn with a 4-under par to tie for 21st at the Surf Club Invitational hosted by Appalachian State at the Surf Golf and Beach Club in North Myrtle Beach, S.C. … The Huskies finished the three rounds in eighth place at 5-under … Will Hennessee paced the Pirates to a ninth-place finish (+16) at the Bandon Dunes Championship in Bandon, Ore. … Hennessee tied for 18th at 1-under.

Women’s Notes: Seton Hall’s Marta Aguilar recorded a 4-over-par (76) while teammate Anne-Sofie Ekman had a 5-over-par (77) at the Chris Banister Classic… At the MSU SoCal Spring Invitational, Creighton’s Morgan Becker was the top performer for the Bluejays, turning in rounds of 79, 73 and 74 - good for a tie for 29th place.  Providence sophomore Gwendolyn Yarnall led the Friars, finishing tied for 74th with a score of 241 (+28) at the MSU SoCal Spring Invitational.
